Mount Agung is highest mountain in Bali Island with a high of 3,142 meters above sea level. Mount Agung is located in Rendang district, Karangasem regency. The volcano is still active and often erupting, but it’s still safe for us to climb. From summit of the mountain we can see Mount Rinjani in Lombok Island in the east. In the south is Nusa Penida Island including Sanur and Sindhu beach, and last is Mount Batur and Abang in the northwest.
Balinese Hindu community believes that Mount Agung is a place of Gods. Therefore they make this place as a holy and secret place.
We will take a long journey to get to the summit. With local guide in speaking English and it will be needs a great energy. At the top of the mountain, all of it will be paid with a beautiful sunrise that you never seen from another place. Combined with the splendor of Mount Rinjani in Lombok Island that will be unforgettable moment. From the top of the mountain is the best place to enjoy the beauty of the sunrise on the island of Bali.
There are two alternative to reach the top of mount Agung.
The journey starts from Besakih Temple (the largest temple in Bali). The ascent will take about 5-7 hours. The best time to start this trip is at 11:00 pm, so that we will reach to the peak before sunrise. This is the best route to get the top of the mountain.
Starts from Pasar Agung temple and will take approximately 4-5 hours. Ideal start time is around 01.30 am. We will got the summit around 06.00 am, while we are waiting for the sunrise we’ll enjoy banana sandwich served with Balinese coffee or tea.
